Student Attendance in Blackboard

Taking Attendance in Blackboard
All students attending both hybrid and online courses will be asked to log in to Zoom by way of the Blackboard course regardless of where they are physically located during class.

To Take Attendance

We have engaged Qwickly for taking attendance in all hybrid courses. This software is “plugged in” to Blackboard and ensures a seamless process based on the class rosters as entered into Blackboard. To initiate the class meeting, the Instructor should access the class Zoom meetings through Blackboard. Once logged into Blackboard, and in the course, on the left control bar near the bottom is the “Attendance” button. In advance of the start of each class meeting, the instructor must click on the “Attendance” button to initiate that process. (If preferred, the instructor can have their faculty assistant to be added as an instructor to their course to perform this task. No student is permitted to be added as an instructor.)

Qwickly offers three ways to take attendance, the “Check In” method requires the students to make the active election to be present at the start of the Zoom class meeting. In summary, three options for attendance taking are:

1) Full list manual – which requires the professor to manually check off each student on the roster as present, absent or tardy and add notes like doctor’s appointment;

2) One-by-one manual – which requires the professor to scroll through the class roster and manually check off each student as present, absent or tardy and add notes and

3) Check in (Video Tutorial)– which allows the instructor a number of settings including a customized time window and an option to require the students to enter a PIN before clicking present. With the Check in option, each student will check themselves in to class when they log into Blackboard to access the zoom class meeting session.

Qwickly will keep a running tab of each student’s attendance and you can generate reports at any point in the semester to keep track of each student’s engagement.
