Work Remotely

In the event that our campus experiences a closure due to inclement weather or for another reason, it is recommended that you familiarize yourself with our Remote Access Guide, including how to setup your home computer for remote connection, and how to reach out for assistance.

Communication

Office 365 – Email, Calendar & Contacts

New York Law School leverages Office 365’s cloud-based Outlook email system for all faculty, staff, & students. The most efficient and secure way to access your NYLS is by using Outlook Web though a browser. Visit http://outlook.com or follow these directions to access your email though a browser.

Voicemail Access

NYLS uses Cisco Unified Communications (UC). This is an IP-based communications system which integrates voice and data. It enables more effective, secure communications and integrates Internet-based telephony into traditional electronic mail delivery services.

All voicemails that are received are encoded as sound files and delivered to the respective email inbox.

Voicemails from unknown callers will appear as follows:

From: Cisco Unity Connection Messaging System <unityconnection@nyls.edu>
Subject: Message from Unknown Sender

Voicemails from members of the campus community will appear as follows:

From: Lastname, Firstname <firstname.lastname@nyls.edu>
Subject: Message from Firstname Lastname (2100)

If you’d like to access your NYLS Voicemail remotely, follow the instructions listed here. If you experience issues with your PIN or access code, please submit a request for assistance with the Help Desk.

File Access

Access to Personal Files on OneDrive

Save your files and photos to OneDrive and get them from any device, anywhere! Use your phone, tablet, or computer to continue what you started — wherever you happen to be. Any changes you make will be updated on all your devices. Visit http://onedrive.com and login with your NYLSid or read more about OneDrive here.

Online Collaboration

Microsoft Teams

A unified communication and collaboration platform that combines persistent workplace chat, video meetings, and file storage (including collaboration on files). The service integrates and is available with NYLS’s Office 365 subscription.

To access Microsoft Teams:

Skype for Business

Enterprise instant messaging software developed by Microsoft as part of the Microsoft Office suite. It is available through Outlook Webmail and supports text, audio, and video chat.

To access Skype for Business:

  • Visit https://outlook.com
  • Login to Outlook using your NYLSid
  • Locate the Skype for Business icon at the top-right and click on the icon.
  • Search for the contact you wish to chat with and begin chatting, that’s it!

Technical Support

The process for receiving technical support remains largely the same.

  • Submit a form to ensure your request is sent directly to the appropriate team member.
  • Email helpdesk@nyls.edu and our team will review & assign the request.
  • Call 212-431-2316 and leave a voicemail, we process requests between 9 AM and 7 PM Monday through Friday.

We will provide ‘best effort’ support over the phone for personal IT resources. Unfortunately, we cannot dispatch support to your home for any reason. Public wi-fi hotspots are not secure and should be avoided whenever possible. In order to provide the best support possible, please be available with your equipment at home so we may assist with troubleshooting the issue.
